Dr.
Laurencin has proposed that we all continue to work toward assuring that
as members of the Health Center community we respect and learn from each
other, value and encourage teamwork, and eliminate old concepts and
prejudices. In support of creating and maintaining an
organizational culture aligned with this mindset, and in support of our
diversity strategy to create an inclusive environment, we have a new
training program entitled "Managing a Harassment-Free and Respectful
Workplace." This program was designed by an outside company with over 30
years of experience in organizational development. We have invested in
this program and have four certified trainers in the HR/Organization and
Staff Development Unit.
All managerial staff including academic staff members who supervise
employee and/or students, are required to attend the training session
entitles "Managing a Harassment-Free and Respectful Workplace."

Management Development Program - Fall 2009
Target Audience: Bargaining Unit Exempt Management and Bargaining Unit
Supervisors

In our quest for management excellence, the Department of Human Resources,
through Know Better Place, has established the Management Development
Program. The primary goal is to provide our managers and supervisors with
the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as a Health Center leader.
Experts in the areas of human resources, financial management, and
compliance regulations guide participants through a variety of managerial
topics. Course highlights include state and bargaining unit hiring
procedures, the performance evaluation process, finance systems and conduct
and compliance policies.
As Health Center leaders, our managers and supervisors are an integral
part of developing an efficient and effective organization that will sustain
and enhance the Health Center community. To this end, the Management
Development Program assists them in this endeavor as we work toward becoming
the employer of “first choice” in our region for people who want to be part
of a caring, committed, talented and diverse workforce dedicated to
advancing health and wellness for the people of Connecticut.
