Education and Training Opportunities

Is there any limit to the number of classes I can register for?
We do not have a limit, but you should check with your supervisor.
Your immediate supervisor must approve attendance for educational
programs.
What classes are offered this semester?
The current list of classes can be found on the educational
offerings schedule page.
How should I decide what classes to take?
A good practice is to talk it over with your supervisor to see what
skills would be beneficial to bring to your present or future career path,
or consult with one of the specialist in the division of staff development
and training.
Do I have to make up the time?
Time away from the job to attend approved job-related training
programs does not have to be charged to accrued time or made up.
Do I have to be a supervisor to take the supervisory/management
classes?
The supervisory/management classes are designed for people who are
presently in supervisory positions and will be most beneficial to those who
can immediately apply the information and concepts learned. These classes could also prove
beneficial to those who are about to become supervisors, and their
attendance is encouraged. Others should wait until their careers include
(or are soon to include) supervisory responsibility.
Who is eligible to take classes?
All employees of the UConn Health Center.
Can I have the handouts without coming to class?
The handouts for most classes are designed to be used in training and
would not be meaningful without class attendance. We, therefore, prefer to
provide handouts only to those in attendance, which have the benefit of
processing the course contents within a classroom setting under the
direction of a qualified
instructor.
How can I make sure that my employees get the most from training?
The supervisor has a major responsibility in the success of employee
training. Their responsibilities include:
- Preparing the trainee for training by emphasizing the importance of
training and setting clear expectations;
- Discussing and reviewing new knowledge with the trainee;
- Providing opportunities for practicing new skills;
- Encouraging and supporting the trainee during skill building phases;
- Celebrating staff development.
What is expected of me when I attend a class?
We ask that prior to registration for a class or a module that you are able
to make the time commitment that is associated with the training.
In some cases, you may be asked to do some preliminary work prior to
attending the first class or module. Homework may also be assigned in some
cases.
Where are the classes held?
Classes will be held in various locations. A broadcast message will go out
indicated the course offering, date, time, and location where it will be
held, as well as, accessing the link to the educational offerings
schedule.
