Office of International Programs
The Office of the International Programs within the Department of Human Resources serves as a resource for immigration, international tax and Human Resources related issues for all UConn Health Center's international population. The UConn Health Center has over 400 internationals from over 40 countries.

This program is managed by Ms. Jaishree Duggal, Human Resources Officer. She can be contacted at 860-679-4430, by email duggal@adp.uchc.edu, or by U.S. mail at Office of International Programs, Department of Human Resources, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06034-4035.

Visas and Immigration
Control over the admission and stay of an international in the United States at the UConn Health Center is vested in two government agencies:

  • INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) a division of the Justice Department administers the laws relating to the admission, exclusion, deportation and naturalization of aliens. The Hartford INS office is located in room 410, 450 main street, Hartford, CT 06103-3060.
  • The State Department which issues the visas allowing students, researchers and faculty to enter the U.S. (through U.S. Embassies overseas).

Visas are grouped into two categories:

  • Non-immigrant visas which allow individuals a temporary stay in the U.S.
    • Work authorized (e.g., J-1, J-2, H-1, F-1, O-1)
    • Not work authorized (e.g., F-2, H-4, B-1, B-2)
  • Immigrant visas which allow a permanent stay in the U.S.
    • Employment based
    • Family based
    • Other

Most of the internationals at the UConn Health Center are sponsored through non-immigrant visas.

Detailed information regarding non-immigrant visas is available through Human Resources.
